First Day of Spring

Monica died today.  Her legend lives on.

A Connecticut/NYC cool person; I never met her but always wanted to meet her and see her in action in person.

Something to do with complications due to leukemia….

I hope she is doing well now!

One of the most powerful songs I’ve ever heard: Angel from Montgomery by John Prine

It was 1974-5 in a “Tea House” in Bridgeport Connecticut.

A female guitarist was playing and singing the song.

I could not believe my ears.

What does “Make me an Angel, that flies from Montegomery. Make me a poster, from an old rodeo.” mean?

Anyway, the lines below are less cryptic and really dot the (third) i’s:

” How the hell can a person

go to work in the morning,

come home in the evening

and have nothing to say?”

AND

“there’s flies in the kitchen.

I can hear ’em there buzzn’.

And I ain’t done nothin’

Since I woke up today.”

Who can write lines like that and get away with it in plain sight?

It’s the equivalent of sky-writing the next winning lottery numbers over the town and nobody gets it.

Write that down

“Write that down on the list of things you hate.”

That was the response of someone I was griping to about something a few years ago.

I wish I had heard the expression earlier in my life, but, of course, I am not upset or unsettled enough about it that I would consider writing it down….

Report from Portland, Oregon:

FAIL.

5 days after the 3rd snow storm of the winter and the streets are worse than the 2nd day.

No one is buying the “we’re not used to it” story anymore.  “We’re not used to it” means not used to showing up to work and actually doing work. I refer to the civil servants specifically here, but the lack of work ethic permeates the city.

Somebody save this place, PLEASE!

Nice views? Volcanos, hills, trees.  Sure.  But too bad:  It used to be that one could get there from here.  Unfortunately, now, you can’t get there from here.

You can, however, get to the airport to fly away to another city with other problems.

It’s in the 20’s (Fahrenheit) and the icy, HAZMAX and bus chain rutted roads have ground transportation to a halt.  It is the last straw required to  chase away the tourists and banks faster than human blight on the streets and the last Longshoreman’s strike that chased away the container shipping business.
